Nope he rode his stock rxp with a riva cai. Johhny floated a valve or broke a valve so he got towed in. He was running in 3rd. Pat roque has had 2 years to prepare for this race and he used that time by riding to catalina every weekend. Im told that he is a GREAT rider in the ocean. Its the semi smooth water races that seem to knock him off his boat.

No, after talking with Ross the promoter, the course is completely different and the apba didnt want to acknowledge any of the races in the past. Its a Lou Peralta thing I guess. So this year establishes the times to beat for next year. Pat Roque is our new apba national champion and all of you get a piece of him at long beach marine stadium race.

Sad, how a shady promoter OVERSHADOWS years of tradition and memories. Lot's of big names have raced this race. It's a crime to turn their back on them due to politics.

Well, understand that in years past there was refueling. This year and for all the races to come there is NO refueling. The turn boat was 1 mile off shore of catalina. Im sure if the powers at be would have let Ross Make an identical course he would have. Your right about the politics but its the real politicians, coast guard, harbor master at catalina that blocked the refueling. I think we are lucky to still have this race.
